DIY Lava Lamp Science Experiment

DIY Lava Lamp Science Experiment 🌋ages 4+ 🌋

We love setting up simple science experiments at home and DIY lava lamps have been a hit in our house for a while. This DIY lava lamp science experiment is so simple to make and will amaze everyone!

MATERIALS NEEDED TO MAKE THE LAVA LAMP(affiliate links):

Glass bottle or jar

Alka-seltzer tablets

Food coloring

Vegetable oil

Water

HOW TO MAKE THE LAVA LAMP:

1. Fill the bottle halfway with vegetable oil.

2. Then fill about 1/4 more with water.

3. Add 5-6 drops of food coloring

4. Finally drop in the Alka-seltzer tablet and let the fun begin!

Check out our video tutorial to make a lava lamp below:

Once the bubbles stop you can add another Alka-seltzer and the bubbles pick right back up! Repeat this over and over to your hearts content!

We used milk bottles with lids and once all the bubbles were done we filled the jar to the top with water, sealed the jar with a lid and kept it as a shake bottle (which was still super cool since the oil and water don’t mix)!
