Fizzy Bunnies Science Experiment

This fizzy bunnies science experiment is a fun twist on the classic baking soda and vinegar experiment. It’s so simple to make and perfect for Eastertime too! My kids had fun melting them down and watching them fizz!

Materials Needed to Make Fizzy Bunnies

  • Bowl
  • Spatula or spoon
  • Baking soda
  • Food coloring
  • Silicone bunny molds (or any fun shape) – We found ours at Nordstrom Rack but you can get similar ones here (affiliate link)
  • Baking pan or small tray
  • Paper towels
  • White Vinegar
  • Dropper or pipette

What To Do

  1. Start by mixing 1/3 cup baking soda with 2 tbsp water in a bowl. Add more water if it’s too dry and more baking soda if too watery.   
  2. Then add a drop or two of food coloring and mix. Fizzy Bunnies Science Experiment
  3. Place the silicone mold on a small tray. Pour or scoop the mixture into the silicone mold. Fizzy Bunnies Science Experiment
  4. Rinse bowl and repeat with various colors to make bunnies in lots of colors.
  5. Use a paper towel to dab off excess water lying on top of the mixture. Fizzy Bunnies Science Experiment
  6. Place tray with silicone mold on it into the freezer. Fizzy Bunnies Science Experiment
  7. Once bunnies are frozen, remove from molds and place in the shallow tray. Fizzy Bunnies Science Experiment
  8. Fill the bowl with white vinegar and use the dropper to add vinegar to the bunnies. Watch the bunnies fizz and melt away! Fizzy Bunnies Science Experiment

Why Does The Bunny Fizz?

The bunny fizzes due to a chemical reaction between baking soda and vinegar. Then they combine they for carbon dioxide gas and those are the fizzy bubbles you see forming!
