Mood of the Day Cups * ages 3+

I love activities that teach kids about emotions and feelings and this is one of the coolest I’ve seen! My boys recently attended an amazing art camp and one of my favorite things they came home with are these Mood of the Day Cups (Thanks Ms. Maria!). They are so simple to make and allow kids to be creative and express their feelings at the same time! These cups would be great to use as pencil holders at school or home so each day the child can think about their mood and adjust the cup to reflect it.

HOW TO MAKE MOOD OF THE DAY CUPS:

1. Start with two plain white cups.

2. Carefully have an adult cut a large square shape out of one of the cups using scissors.

3. Insert the second cup inside the cup with a square cutout on the side.

4. Write “Mood of the Day” on the outside cup around the square cutout. Kids that are old enough to write can write this themselves.

5. Give the child some markers and ask them to draw pictures of different feelings inside the square. Once they draw one feeling have them turn the inside cup to another blank space and then draw another.

6. The child should be able to draw 4-5 feelings on their cups.

7. Write the child’s name on the bottom of the cup so they know it’s theirs.

That’s it! Now spin the cup inside to see all the emotions scroll by.
