Water Droplet Painting

Water droplet painting is a fun process art activity that’s super simple to set up and creates amazing pieces of art! It’s also great at improving fine motor skills, working on color recognition, mixing colors, and encouraging creativity!

Materials Needed for Water Droplet Painting:

  • Food coloring
  • Water
  • Small containers
  • Pipette or dropper
  • Parchment paper
  • Paper towels

 What To Do:

  1. Start by making colored water by mixing food coloring and water in small containers.
  2. Next use the pipette to add drops of colored water to the parchment paper. You can make a picture (like a rainbow) or a letter or just an abstract design. TIP: if you add a drop that’s too large or in the wrong place, just use the dropper to pick it back up and place it in the correct spot.
  3. Once your design is complete, take a paper towel and lay it over your design and watch the painting come through on the paper towel!

I was so amazed at how bright and beautiful the designs came through on the paper towel!  Check out the letter and abstract designs we did as well below.
