3 Fall Leaf Crafts

Fall is such a beautiful time of year with the changing leaves in all the bright red, yellow and orange colors.  Here are 3 classic, time-tested, simple Fall leaf crafts that are easy to set up and will keep kids entertained and creating beautiful pieces of art!

Fall Craft 1: Crayon-Resist Leaf Art

Materials Needed:

  • A leaf
  • White paper
  • White Crayon
  • Dabber Dot Markers

What to Do:

  1.  Start by placing the leaf under the white paper.
  2. Use an unwrapped white crayon to rub over the leaf onto the paper for about 1 minute. Be sure to get all the areas of the leaf covered by the crayon.
  3. Finally, use the dabber dot markers to apply color to the paper.  Watch how the leaf print shows through and doesn’t absorb color on the paper.

Fall Craft 2: Painted Leaf Prints

Materials Needed:

  • A leaf
  • Tempera Paints
  • Paintbrush
  • Paper towel
  • Bowl of water
  • White paper

What to Do:

  1. Start by placing a leaf on a paper towel and using a paintbrush to apply tempera paints in red, orange and yellow to the leaf.
  2. Once the leaf is covered in paint, place it face down onto a white piece of paper.
  3. Use the paper towel to cover the leaf and press down on the leaf to make sure the entire leaf is pressed to the paper.
  4. Remove the leaf slowly to reveal the beautiful print on the paper.
  5. Set print aside until completely dry.

Fall Craft 3: Leaf Silhouettes

Materials Needed:

  • A leaf
  • Watercolor paper
  • Watercolor paints
  • Paintbrush
  • Paper towel
  • Bowl of water

What to Do:

  1.  Start by placing the leaf on the watercolor paper.
  2. Hold the leaf in place with one hand and use the other hand to apply watercolor paint to the outer edge of the leaf and the paper around the leaf.
  3. Once you’ve gone all around the leaf, remove the leaf from the paper to reveal the silhouette.
  4. Finish covering your paper with paint while leaving the leaf silhouette white.
