Floating Hearts Magnetic Challenge * ages 5+

Here’s a fun challenge that also teaches kids about magnetism.

Floating Hearts magnet challenge

MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • Scissors
  • Tissue Paper
  • Glue stick
  • Paper clips
  • Thread
  • Tape
  • Magnet

WHAT TO DO:
1. Cut some small tissue paper hearts

2. Glue them together with a paper clip in between.  Leave a small bit of the paper clip sticking out of the bottom.

3. Cut a piece of thread about 2 feet long.

4. Lace the thread through the paper clip.

5. Tape the thread to the table and you are good to go.

Now  use the magnet to keep the heart floating in the air as long as possible without touching the heart. The magnetic forces between the magnet and the paper clip will “magically” keep the heart floating! Challenge the kids to see who can keep the heart floating the longest without it touching the magnet. So fun and a great STEAM activity! 👍🏻
