Patriotic Skittles Experiment with Water * ages 3+

Patriotic Skittles Experiment with Water 🇺🇸 ages 3+ 🇺🇸 This simple experiment with skittles and water is so simple to set up and perfect for July 4th, Memorial Day or any patriotic holiday!

MATERIALS NEEDED:

Bag of Skittles (We used a seasonal red, white and blue bag, but a regular bag would work for making lots of other color combos!)

Warm water

Flat serving platter or plate

Check out our video tutorial below:

WHAT TO DO:

1. Find a flat surface and a place your serving platter or plate on the surface. (Note that if there is any unevenness at all the colors will flow in that direction.)

2. Arrange the skittles in a pattern or shape. We created stars and the American flag to go with our patriotic theme but any shapes will work for normal days. Circles are always a winner with this activity.

3. Once your shape is created add some warm water to the tray.

4. Now sit back and watch the colors swirl!

VARIATION:

1. Shooting stars – we wanted to make shooting stars, so we placed a small card (2 thick pieces of paper) under on side of the tray to make it slightly tilted. Then we created our stars at the top of the slant. When we added water the the tray, our shooting stars moved to the lower slanted section! It was beautiful!
