My kids loved watching the colors emerge from the cloud and swirl through the water! It was a perfect outdoor activity for a hot, summer day. Although I will say, you can see the rainbow much better when the kids were not in the pool! Too many waves makes the rainbow disappear faster. 😂 You can also use these in the bathtub, but my kids are prone to eczema so I try to keep their baths as chemical free as possible.  For us, an outdoor pool activity was perfect!

How Do Bath Bombs Work

Bath bombs are made up of citric acid and sodium bicarbonate.  When the bath bombs are dry, the two chemicals don’t mix, but when they get wet, they mix to form sodium citrate and carbon dioxide. The carbon dioxide starts to bubble and form a gas which is the fizzing bubbles you see.   Here’s a great article about the science behind bath bombs.
