Giant Number Line Math Game * ages 2+

I love when we can get outside and do learning games and this number line math game took all of 30 seconds to make and had the kids jumping around and doing math at the same time! It’s one of the best number line activities we’ve tried and it can easily be modified for toddlers, preschoolers, kindergartners and elementary age kids!

Setting Up Your Giant Number Line

  1. Draw a long vertical line using sidewalk chalk.
  2. Then draw short horizontal lines evenly spaced that cross the vertical lines.
  3. Finally, label the horizontal lines from 0-10 (or larger numbers for older kids) and you are good to go!

How to Play with Your Giant Number Line:

  • Make it a game and ask two kids to solve the math problem by moving to the correct line. Whoever gets to the correct answer first wins!
  • For my 3 year old, I gave him a number and asked him to find it on the number line.
  • Another fun variation for older kids would be to label the lines 10,20,30,40, etc and give them multiplication facts to solve. Once they know the answer they move between the two numbers that their answer falls between and then they shout out the correct answer.

In retrospect, I should probably have drawn the numbers facing the kids, so I would recommend making that change, but all in all this activity was a big hit with all my boys!
